Who We Are

We are current students and alumni from The Pennington School, an independent school in New Jersey. Over the past five years we have been working closely with Dzaleka, a refugee camp in Malawi which is home to 60,000 displaced people, and the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) to create STEM innovations and programs that will improve the lives of school-aged refugees. During this time, we have donated over 200 iPads, designed a patent-pending menstrual product and economic infrastructure surrounding this product, delivered multiple math tutoring lessons over zoom, designed and delivered desks for classrooms to fit 100 elementary school students, and taught refugee students how to build a solar phone charger. Currently, we are working to design a home water filtration system at Dzaleka. In June 2023, we engaged in a partnership with JRS and teens at Dzaleka to test a prototype filter in their homes and provide feedback on its functionality. The feedback we receive from our research partners will inform the next design modifications. During our 2022 and 2023 trips to Dzaleka, we met in person the people from the community we have been collaborating with. Their stories are inspiring. We learned so much from our conversations. We now want to share this learning with others, and in the process, grow empathy.
